With works 39 and 40 spring starts for me. I remember especially this stage. Actually it was spring time. And it appeared unexpectedly. The notion of duality learnt in works 30,31, 32 and 33 takes on a new meaning and a new implementation. I forgot about figurative suggestions and go back to the painting. Back to a space in depth - where the elements can breathe I combine an abstract gestural element with another element, more rational and created outside the painting. At first they are simple works, with big constrasts and painted in a huge format. I used a Polaroid, I created a gestural world on the canvas, I took it to its logical conclusion, as I learnt at the 'Findings' stage, and once finished I took a photo of it. Then on the photo of the gestural element I designed flat shapes using a pencil and a ruler so that they worked on the gestural element. It was a marvellous stage. 'Misael and Judith' comes from this idea.
It is a love story which clearly represented my method at that moment. |
